“Funding future science: Where SciComm meets philanthropy”

Amitabha Gupta, PhD
Associate Director, Scientific Content and Engagement – Philanthropy
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center  Seattle, WA

Thursday, May 23 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
In Person at Foege South Auditorium (Genome Sciences)
Virtually on Zoom Webinar

Amitabha “Guppy” Gupta is the Associate Director of Scientific Content and Engagement for the Philanthropy department at Fred Hutch. After training to be a teacher at a PUI during grad school and his post-doc, Guppy joined the Philanthropy department at Fred Hutch to help communicate the research being done at the Hutch to external audiences. By centering the science on and promoting research being done by women, people of color, and LGBTQIA+ individuals, Guppy changed the stories that Fred Hutch was telling and created new ways of telling these stories. He also launched a new program to reach a more diverse audience and reduce the barriers for engaging with the work done at the Hutch. By making the science more accessible and welcoming in a broader audience, he hopes to push science towards being more anti-racist and more inclusive.

This seminar series is only possible because of generous support from the UW Departments of:

Biochemistry, Biological Structure, Cell and Molecular Biology Training Program, Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, Medicinal Chemistry, Microbiology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Pharmacology, Physiology and Biophysics. Thank You!
