Bioscience Careers Seminar with Anna Hughes, Ph.D.
April 22 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
I am a Research Molecular Biologist in the Agricultural Research Services at the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Within the Foodborne Toxin Detection and Prevention Research Unit, I work to improve methods for the detection and reduction of bacterial toxins in food. In this seminar, I will tell you about my experience leaving academia and what it is like to work at the USDA. Please join me in what I hope will be an informative talk with lots of time for discussion and questions.
Anna Hughes earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Biology at the University of California San Diego. She completed her Ph.D. in Microbiology at Indiana University under the supervision of Dr. Daniel Kearns. For her thesis, she studied how bacteria sense and respond to a surface environment, using the swimming to swarming transition in Bacillus subtilis as a model.
