“Journey from Bench to Bedside: The Successful Translation of Cystic Fibrosis Research into Life-Changing Therapies”

Bonnie W. Ramsey MD is an Endowed Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the UW Department of Pediatrics. She has been an international leader in translational research in the field of Cystic Fibrosis having led several key therapeutic development programs resulting in approved therapies for patients with this life-shortening disease. She developed the largest CF clinical trials network in the world. Her presentation will review 4 decades of her work in developing inhaled antibiotics to treat CF lung infections and subsequent work in developing oral CFTR modulator therapies to treat the abnormal protein in this genetic disorder. For her work, Dr. Ramsey received the UW Medicine Inventor of the Year Award in 2009, elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2015, and received the Warren Alpert Foundation Prize in 2018.
