SUMMARY:National Career Fair Series: National Postdoc Recruitment Fair
DESCRIPTION:The National Career Fair Series consists of three complementary virtual recruitment events designed to connect graduate talent with opportunities across industry\, government\, research institutions\, and higher education. Participants are welcome to participate in multiple fairs. \nThe virtual National Academic Postdoc Recruitment Fair connects PhD and postdoctoral professionals with academies and organizations across the nation and internationally who are recruiting/hiring Postdoctoral Scholar (all tracks: Trainees\, Scholar\, Fellows\, Research Associates\, Teaching Fellows\, and/or Visiting Postdocs) positions. If you are looking for your first or next postdoc position\, then this is the career fair for you. \nTuesday\, October 6\n9 am – 12 pm PT \nOpen to PhD students and postdoctoral scholars exploring postdoctoral opportunities across all disciplines. \nRegister Now >>> \nSubmit CV >> \nCVs are due by Tuesday\, September 15 at 5 am PT.

SUMMARY:NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Program Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Do you have student loan debt? Do you conduct biomedical or behavioral research? \nIf you answered YES to both questions\, you may be eligible for an NIH loan repayment award (LRP)! An NIH grant is NOT required to apply for an LRP award. Your research must be funded by a domestic nonprofit or U.S. government (federal\, state\, or local) entity. Awardees can receive up to $100\,000 of qualified educational debt repayment with a two-year award. \nOf note\, you do NOT need to route a UW internal eGC1 to participate. If your research funding is administered by another institution (such as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center)\, that institution should verify your application. The NIH Loan Repayment Programs application deadline is 11/19/2026. \nReview UW guidance on getting started with an NIH LRP application. \nNIH is hosting a webinar for applicants on 10/06/2026\, registration is required.  Review more information & a link to register from NIH. \nTo help applicants learn more about the NIH Extramural Loan Repayment Program\, we invite you to join our Technical Assistance Webinar on October 6\, 2026 (registration required).  During the webinar\, we will provide essential information on the application process\, eligibility requirements\, and the benefits of receiving an Extramural LRP award.

SUMMARY:Rigor\, Reproducibility\, and Transparency (RRT) Seminar Series: Manu Setty\, PhD
DESCRIPTION:The Rigor\, Reproducibility\, and Transparency (RRT) Seminar Series is a series in collaboration with the Fred Hutch Cancer Center presented by faculty from each of the several ongoing training grants at Fred Hutch and UW. Presenters include faculty from training grants at the Fred Hutch and the UW. The series is in response to NIH-mandated RRT training for trainees on training grants\, F awards\, and K awards. Lectures focus on a detailed discussion of common or emerging methodologies with the aim of describing strengths\, limitations\, and pitfalls so those employing or interpreting the data gain a realistic sense of what can and cannot be learned. \nThe October seminar will feature Manu Setty\, PhD\, Assistant Professor\, Basic Sciences Division\, Herbold Computational Biology Program\, Public Health Sciences Division\, Member\, Translational Data Science Integrated Research Center (TDS IRC)\, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center \n“Rigor and reproducibility in computational research”\nComputational research carries its specific reproducibility risks: methods can overfit to the datasets they were developed on\, results can depend on undocumented parameter choices\, and analysis code often cannot be rerun months later. In this seminar\, I will describe practices that can be used to maintain rigor\, robustness\, and reproducibility across computational research\, from method development to data interpretation. These include validating methods on simulated and independent datasets\, benchmarking against existing approaches\, testing sensitivity to parameters and data quality\, and building analysis pipelines with version-controlled\, openly shared code. I will illustrate these practices with case studies from our work on single-cell and spatial genomics. \nZoom Recording: Manu Setty\, PhD Zoom Recording \nUW Trainees: To receive RRT seminar credit\, you must attend the Zoom seminar live (or watch the recording within 30 days of the live seminar) and then fill out this survey stating three things you learned. Click here to visit the UW webpage to learn more about the seminar series\, including a recording of the seminar in the “Seminar Schedule” section for that seminar. \nFred Hutch Trainees: To receive RRT seminar credit\, you must attend the Zoom seminar live (or watch the recording within 30 days of the live seminar) and then fill out this survey stating three things you learned. The video can also be found on the RRT seminar series page on CenterNet.
