DESCRIPTION:The Simons Foundation is now accepting applications for the next class of Pivot Fellows\, offering a unique opportunity for researchers ready to bring their expertise to a new field in mathematics or the natural sciences. \nFellows will receive support for one year of mentored training in their new discipline\, followed by the opportunity to apply for up to five years of research funding in their new field. \nThe fellowships provide salary support and funding for research\, travel and professional development. His lab develops software for protein design and uses it to create molecules that address challenges in medicine\, technology\, and sustainability. Recent work includes the development of machine learning methods for generating functional proteins. \nDavid is also an adjunct professor of genome sciences\, bioengineering\, chemical engineering\, computer science\, and physics at the University of Washington. He has published more than 650 scientific papers\, been awarded over 100 patents\, and co-founded 21 biotechnology companies. More than 100 of his trainees have gone on to independent faculty positions. \nHe is the recipient of numerous awards\, including the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry “for computational protein design.” He is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences\, National Academy of Engineering\, and National Academy of Inventors. David was also included on TIME’s inaugural list of the 100 Most Influential People in health. \nDavid received his PhD in biochemistry with Randy Schekman at the University of California\, Berkeley\, and conducted postdoctoral research in biophysics with David Agard at UCSF.

DESCRIPTION:This is a group facilitated in partnership with Ingersoll Gender Center for UW students (undergraduate\, graduate\, and professional) who identify as trans (including\, but not limited to\, binary trans identities\, non-binary trans identities\, culturally specific gender identities\, demi-gender identities\, genderfluid and genderqueer identities\, etc.) as well as those who are at any point in their journey of gender self discovery. This loving and supportive space emphasizes community and connection as we process anything and everything gender related. Ask questions\, find support\, and grow. \nThis event is hosted by the Q Center. The Q Center has proudly served LGBTQ+ and allied students\, staff\, and faculty for almost 20 years. They foster a brave\, affirming\, and inclusive community where everyone’s gender and sexual identities are celebrated. DESCRIPTION:The goal of the FFFW is to prepare post docs to apply for academic positions in biosciences by providing resources to understand and prepare job applications\, gain teaching and mentoring experience\, and build communication and job-seeking skills. \nThis four-week series includes a one-day\, in-person event on career development followed by three online sessions. The workshop will feature search committee members and faculty members both within and outside traditional university research settings. \nWorkshop topics include: \n\nDemystifying academia\nHow to write research\, teaching\, and diversity statements\nPreparing for your interview\nCareers outside of research universities\nUnderstanding search committees\nNew Faculty Panel\nMentorship\nDepartment Chairs panel\n\nThe workshop is free and open to any postdoctoral fellow in their second year or beyond from the University of Washington School of Medicine\, Allen Institute\, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center\, Institute for Systems Biology\, Seattle Biomedical Research Institute\, and Seattle Children’s Research Institute. \nThe application for 2026 Future Faculty Fellows Workshop will open February 2026.

DESCRIPTION:Registration for the May 27 (1:00-2:30 p.m. Pacific Time) virtual Town Hall regarding the UW’s Diversity in Clinical Trials Initiative (DCTI) is now open. DESCRIPTION:The Rigor\, Reproducibility\, and Transparency (RRT) Seminar Series is a series in collaboration with the Fred Hutch Cancer Center presented by faculty from each of the several ongoing training grants at Fred Hutch and UW. Presenters include faculty from training grants at the Fred Hutch and the UW. The series is in response to NIH-mandated RRT training for trainees on training grants\, F awards\, and K awards.
