SUMMARY:Deadline: ITHS Pilot Program Funding
DESCRIPTION:Looking to fund an early stage product development\, community engagement\, or an interdisciplinary research project? The ITHS Pilot Program is now accepting applications for three exciting funding opportunities designed to accelerate your translational research. \nClick below to learn more and apply! \n\nEarly-Stage Product Development Award: Up to $100k to support clinically relevant research discoveries towards the development of commercial products that improve human health. Projects should demonstrate or strengthen critical evidence that the envisioned product accomplishes its health-related purpose with respect to safety\, efficacy\, scalability\, feasibility or clinical utility (i.e.\, proof of concept).\nAcademic Community Partnerships Award: Up to $50k to jump-start partnerships between academic and community investigators in new projects that investigate a community-based health problem or disseminate evidence-based health innovations into practice. We especially encourage applications for projects that test interventions or innovations to improve health in community clinical settings.\nNew Interdisciplinary Academic Partnerships Award: Up to $50k to facilitate new partnerships between academic investigators who have not previously received joint research funding for interdisciplinary projects addressing critical translational research challenges in innovative ways.\n\nLetter of Intent Deadline: September 12\, 2025

SUMMARY:Pacific Northwest Research Institute: Science Matters
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Newborn Screening Awareness Month\, our September Science Matters seminar will spotlight the science\, policy\, and impact of newborn screening—the nation’s most successful public health program. Join us to learn how advances in screening are shaping the future of care for rare and genetic diseases. \nHighlights of Newborn Screening for Treatable Diseases\nMichael H. Gelb\, PhD\nWeinstein Endowed Chair in Chemistry\, University of Washington \nDr. Gelb will trace the evolution of newborn screening assays over the past two decades and highlight new technologies developed in the last two years that are shaping the future of this critical public health program. \nNewborn Screening for Rare Diseases in 2025: The Bad\, the Ugly\, the Good\, and the Beautiful!\nDean Suhr\nPresident & Co-Founder\, MLD Foundation \n2025 has been a year of big shifts in medical research\, especially in newborn screening – the nation’s most successful public health program. This talk will cover the status of adding new conditions to the federal Recommended Uniform Screening Panel and launching in-state newborn screening programs. It will also touch on how the recent elimination of the federal ACHDNC advisory committee and the reorganization of HRSA and HHS have created both challenges and new opportunities. \nClick here to register >>

Project teams that review and follow all the instructions have a greater chance of funding. \nNew for Fall 2025 \n\nFaculty eligibility is now limited to Assistant and Associate Professors (including Research\, Teaching\, and WOT faculty). Full Professors are no longer eligible to submit new proposals.\nCo-Is (formerly Co-PIs) are considered equal in status to the PI and must have a measurable role in the project. Including more than one Co-I requires justification.\nWe now ask for a Lay Summary – rather than an abstract – on the proposal cover page.\nZoom office hours to support applicant teams will be available from 1 to 2 pm on September 10\, September 17\, and September 24.\n\nContact the RRF administrative staff with questions about the program: Peter Wilsnack\, 206-685-9316.
