PNRI: Science Matters Seminar

Computational Early Cancer Genome Analysis at a National Scale with Isidro Cortés-Ciriano, PhD
The Cortés Ciriano Group develops experimental and computational tools to decipher the mechanisms driving cancer genome complexity and evolution, with the goal of improving early detection and treatment strategies. This seminar will highlight recent advances including the discovery of a new rearrangement process, loss-translocation-amplification (LTA) chromothripsis, which drives rapid cancer progression; the development of SAVANA, an algorithm that detects complex structural variants using long-read sequencing; and a new plasma DNA sequencing technology for accurate cancer diagnosis, monitoring, and early relapse detection.
This virtual event will include Dr. Cortés-Ciriano’s presentation plus Q&A with the audience. Register today for free!
PNRl’s Science Matters seminars highlight exciting research in genetics, genomics, and evolutionary biology with important societal impact. Topics include research on the genetics of ethnically diverse populations, diseases afflicting vulnerable or underserved groups, and efforts to expand the diversity (broadly defined) of research subjects or the scientific workforce. The seminars are open to the scientific community, and anyone interested in learning more about genetics.
