Biography

Dr. Ana Weil is a physician-scientist infectious diseases physician in the Center for Emerging and Re-Emerging Diseases in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Weil’s research is focused on understanding how the gut microbiota impacts susceptibility to enteric infections and immune responses to oral vaccines. The Weil lab uses metagenomic sequencing, anaerobic microbiology, human-derived enteroid models to investigate interactions between gut microbes, enteric pathogens, and the host. Dr. Weil’s research is funded by the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Weil is originally from Fairbanks, Alaska, and attended UC Berkeley as an undergraduate and Johns Hopkins School of Public Health to earn a master’s degree in public health. She attended Tufts medical school and completed her internal medicine and infectious diseases training at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she also served as a chief resident in medicine. At UW, Dr. Weil works clinically with patients who have  infectious disease complications of solid organ transplantation.
