Biography:
David Ginty, Ph.D., is department chair and the Edward R. and Anne G. Lefler Professor of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. He is also co-director of the Harvard University Brain Sciences Initiative.
Ginty is a sensory and developmental neurobiologist. His research laboratory investigates the properties and functions of the primary sensory neurons of touch and the functional organization of touch and pain circuits in the spinal cord and brain, in health and disease.
Ginty earned his PhD degree in physiology from East Carolina University, did postdoctoral research on neuronal signaling mechanisms at Harvard Medical School, and was a professor of neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, before returning to Harvard Medical School in 2013. He is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences.
