Zeidy Garcia graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in May 2020 where she majored in Molecular and Cellular Biology and was involved in undergraduate research studying Marek’s disease virus. After graduation, she began working as a research technician in labs studying vectored immunoprophylaxis to prevent human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and the entry mechanisms of viral hemorrhagic fever viruses. She is currently a graduate student in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Washington School of Medicine and is investigating the mechanisms that maintain Kaposi’s Sarcoma herpesvirus (KSHV) latent infection in endothelial cells.
