Annabelle Souza is a graduate student in the Pathobiology program. Her enthusiasm for infectious diseases began in the fifth grade and has only grown since. She majored in Biology and minored in Music at the University of Central Florida. Following graduation, she studied host suppresors of Kaposi’s Sarcoma-associated Herpesvirus (KSHV) with Britt Glaunsinger at UC Berkeley. As a graduate student, Annabelle is now working in the Bruce Torbett Lab, investigating HIV evolution through in vitro work, coupled with advanced sequencing and bioinformatics. She is a woman, first-generation, LGBTQ student in STEM. In her free time, she stays active; whether it’s exercising, buying a farmer’s apple, or adding a new pair of earrings by a local artist to her collection. She is also an avid participant in nearly all music-related events.
